New minimal wages in Norway from 1.July 2021

July 06, 2021

Minimum wages per hour have not been changed in Norway since 2019. Everyone hopes that the pandemic period is over, so we are returning to  the annual revaluation of minimum rates.

Here are the most important changes in several crucial industries:

Construction industry
Skilled worker: NOK 220.00
Unskilled worker with no professional experience: NOK 198.30
Unskilled worker with at least one year of professional experience: NOK 206.50
Employee under 18: NOK 132.90

Shipbuilding industry
According to the regulation, employees who perform production, assembly and installation work in the shipbuilding industry are to have a minimum remuneration of:
Skilled worker: NOK 189.39
specialized worker: NOK 180.87
semi-skilled workers : NOK 172.44

With the exception of employees recruited in a given workplace, orders requiring an overnight stay away from home are remunerated in addition to the hourly base rate in the amount of:
Skilled worker: NOK 37.88
specialized worker: NOK 36.17
semi-skilled workers: NOK 34.49

Cleaning industry
employees over 18 years: NOK 196.04
employees under 18: NOK 146.27
Additionally, for work between 21:00 and 6:00 a.m. there is an allowance, which should not be less than 27 NOK per hour.

Hotel and catering industry
employees aged 16: NOK 114.08
employees aged 17: NOK 123.58
employees aged 18: NOK 137.84
Beginner employees over 20 years of age or with more than 4 months of work experience over 18 years NOK 175.47

The new rates also apply to deductions from wages for accommodation on the company's premises:
single room: NOK 582.16 per month
double room: NOK 378.64 per month per person

Electrotechnical industry
Employees with a vocational training: 225.15 NOK
Other workers: NOK 96.47

The most important issue is the calculation of the correct rates from July 2021. The rates changed "top-down" as a result of negotiations between the employers and employees' organizations do not have to be included in an annex to the contract or a new contract.
